Located in beautiful Dacula, Georgia, Calder & Colegrove Investment Group is a family-owned financial planning practice. Using a holistic approach, we utilize fee-based solutions to help clients develop and execute strategies such as retirement income planning, wealth preservation, and legacy planning.

Developed as a partnership between a father-in-law and his son-in-law, Calder & Colegrove Investment Group is comprised of two advisors, James W. Calder and Dr. John Colegrove. Please read below to learn more.

James W. Calder

Known to his friends and clients alike as “JC”, James Calder has been an LPL Financial Advisor since 1994 and has called Georgia his home for more than 20 years. JC is Canadian by birth and spent his formative years working on the family farm near a small town called Kintore—located near London, Ontario. His journey into the great American land of opportunity began with his formal studies at Houghton College in New York, where he earned the Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in History. Like many young college students, JC was forced to find a way to pay for his education, and so for those 4 summers, he sold books door-to-door for the nationally acclaimed Southwestern Book Company, based in Nashville, Tennessee. His “character building experience” on the family farm in Canada served him well with Southwestern, as he was named a “top-20” book salesman. He became a Sales Manager at Southwestern and held the position for 10 years. JC then owned a printing company in Atlanta—becoming #2 in the Franchise—eventually selling the company to his partner in 1994. During his tenure as a Financial Advisor, JC has earned several of the highest designations in the profession. He is an LPL Branch Manager, a graduate of the National Institute of Estate Planning ®, a member of the Certified Financial Planning Association, and a member of the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce and CEO Roundtable. JC and Jeannie have been married over 40 years. They have 4 adult children and 5 grandchildren. JC and Jeannie live in Dacula and are active members of their church.

Dr. John Colegrove, RIS

An LPL Financial Advisor with Calder & Colegrove Investment Group since 2001, Dr. John considers himself a teacher first and foremost. His experience and education support that assertion. A long-time Georgia resident, Dr. John pursued a teaching career in music—receiving his bachelor’s degree from UGA, his master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame, and his doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. While at Notre Dame, he was a graduate assistant with the “Fighting Irish” Marching Band. So how and why did Dr. John become an LPL Financial Advisor when he was educated as a teacher? Aware that the #1 cause of divorce in this country centers on conflicts over finances, Dr. John employs his passion for teaching and is focused on helping families by implementing weatlh planning strategies. His goal is simple: To help improve marriages and family relationships by developing and implementing smart financial strategies. Professionally, Dr. John holds the distinguished designation of “Retirement Income Specialist” (RIS) from the Institute of Business and Finance. This designation is held by less than 1% of all Financial Advisors. Ruthie, his wife of 12 years, is the middle school band director at the Wesleyan School in Norcross. A resident of Duluth, Dr. John has called the state of Georgia his home for 22 years. Active in the community, he is sought as a speaker at teacher conventions, presents money topics to High School Seniors, and has performed trombone with local orchestras, bands, and small ensembles. He and his wife Ruthie, have 2 children.
